Bringing the Southwest Experience Home : Canyon Cafe, Sam's Cafe, Desert Fire
Published in Paperback by Canyon Cafe (November, 2000)
Average review score:

I never new taste until I tasted Southwest!I have eaten in a Canyon Cafe many times and never had a bad meal. Whenever I pull out Bringing the Southwest...Home, my family knows we're in for a treat! It's not just about the South Texas Tortilla Soup or the Pecan Crusted Crab Cakes with Chipotle Remoulade...Mmmmmmm!!! For every season there are occasion menus, like Los Dias de Los Muertos, an Aztec celebration of life that offers a feast of Chicken Chile Rellenos with Tomatillo-Avocado Salsa, Venison Posole, Noche Buena Salad, Fire-Grilled Turkey Skewers with Papaya-Mango Salsa & Cucumber Mint Dipping Sauce, Braised Buffalo Short Ribs in Mustard Mole Sauce, and a Mini Bunuelo Sundae Bar. Unlike most cookbooks, it takes out the guess work by presenting recipes from the appetizer to the dessert, up to four menus per season. The book comes in its own colorful jacket, making it the perfect gift, too! AND, I can find all of the ingredients in right in my neighborhood supermarket. My relatives just love it!!!

Chicano Discourse: Socio-Historic Perspective
Published in Paperback by Arte Publico Pr (September, 1994)
Average review score:

An excellent contrast to Chicana/o fiction about Spanglish!Chicano Discourse is an excellent work that explains and defines Chicano discourse through a ground-breaking socio-historical perspective. This work complements Chicana/o works of fiction in that it clearly illustrates how Chicano discourse is particular to time and space. In other words, Sanchez tells us why Chicano discourse is different throughout the Southwest and elswhere in the U.S. Challenging academia and in conversation with Gloria Anzaldua and Jose Antonio Burciaga, among others,Sanchez's brilliant perspective allows us to see why Spanglish is a unique dialect which is reflective of the lived experience(s) of Chicana/os in the U.S

Coyote Cafe
Published in Paperback by Ten Speed Press (July, 2002)
Average review score:

cooking with coyotes & howling with delightTruly a spectacular cookbook, Mark Miller has recipes that will delight the senses and make you a hero at any dinner party. The ingredient combinations play off of each other and offer unique twists on traditional southwestern cooking. As one very familar with the southwest and it's cuisine, this book ranks as enticing and innovative. The recipes are foolproof and easy to follow, but you will need to adhere to the fresh ingredients rule-- no canned black beans, or frozen corn for these recipes, stick with fresh and you can not fail. Unlike some other cookbooks that feature regional cuisine, Coyote Cafe includes complete recipes that you do not need to tinker with and that are tested. So go ahead cook with Miller and howl at the moon!

Good Stuff. This book reveals how modern adoption suits should be handled. The answer was plain, simple, and correct--how ironic that the bird which symbolizes America could see it so easily.
